What We Believe

As a part of the Christadelphian community, we subscribe to the Birmingham Amended Statement of Faith as the basis for our beliefs. The summary below encapsulates these beliefs.

God

There is one God, revealed in the Bible as the Creator of all things and the Father of all those who obey Him.

We believe that God is a loving and just Father; he has a plan for you & me, which he will undoubtedly make a reality in this earth.

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the only source of information about God, and that it is wholly true in every part, being inspired by God himself.

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is God’s power, as revealed in all his amazing acts. It is not an individual and has no consciousness.

Our Hopeless State

We believe that mankind is inherently flawed, having inherited a nature which leads to sin & death from Adam, the first man. This is not the result of some supernatural external force (ie. the Devil) – we are wholly responsible for our own actions.

We believe that on death, we return to dust and have no consciousness. There is no place of torment called hell, and equally, heaven is not the home of the departed.

Jesus

We believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God sent in the flesh by God to save us from this hopeless state.

We believe he lived as a normal human being and experienced all the pain and struggles that come with our human existence.

We believe that Jesus died on the cross as our representative, and that by God’s Holy Spirit he was raised on the third day to give us hope.

We believe that Jesus lives in heaven, acting as our mediator to God. Through him, we have the forgiveness of sins and a way out of our hopeless state.

God’s Plan For You & Me

We believe that very soon, God will send Jesus back to establish his kingdom here on earth. Jesus will rule as God’s representative, bringing peace and justice to the whole world.

We believe that just as Jesus was raised from the dead, God will raise the dead at Christ’s return.

We believe that God will judge his servants at Christ’s coming, separating the faithful from those who do not live a life which reflects God’s values.

Our Community

We believe that all who believe the Gospel and are baptised are counted among God’s servants. God’s servants are not distinguished by race, social status, gender or age; all are equal. All are a part of God’s family, considered his children and having full access to God through Christ.

We believe that we become Christ’s friends through remembering him weekly in sharing bread and wine together and in following his commandments in our personal lives.
